Come together Lesson 19

An Email from Down Under

Christina is a German who is married to Ben, who is Australian. They live together in Frankfurt.

Christina has just received an email from her parents, who are on holiday in Australia. Excitedly, she reads it out loud to her husband

Christina: Hey Ben, I just got an email from my parents! Do you want me to read it to you?

Ben: Oh yeah, go ahead, I’m curious!

Dear Chris,  Greetings from Sydney! After almost a week in the outback, we are happy to be back in civilization.

The wilderness of Australia’s backcountry is fascinating, but pretty scary! The fauna in particular can give you chills.

As you know, lots of the animals here are poisonous, so it was quite a thrill.

We saw crocodiles, snakes and all kinds of creepy crawlies, which grow to sizes we Europeans simply cannot imagine!

As usual, we are attaching some pictures, so you can see for yourself! The cuter animals include dingoes, kangaroos and wallabies.

We are still hoping to see a koala and a wombat, may be we will have better luck when we continue our trip towards Melbourne.

The Aussies are very friendly people, who love chatting with strangers, so we have plenty of opportunities to practice our English.

Of course you can find all kinds of food here, but some typical Australian specialties take a little bit of getting used to…

such as the famous ´Vegemite` spread.

But, you can find avocados on almost every menu, yummy! You know how much we like them.

We hope that all is well with you and we are looking forward to seeing you again in two weeks, when we fly back into Frankfurt.

But we are not looking forward to the jet lag!

Take care, Love, Mum & Dad

Ben: Sounds like they are enjoying themselves over there!

Christina: It does! I hope that next year we will be able to go to Australia, too!
